Christ Our Savior COVID-19 Closure Information

Based on updated information provided by the Illinois State Board of Education on Sunday, March 15, 2020, I am reaching back out to you to clarify some details and adjust some of the information that was sent out on Friday.

As of today, the dates of school closure continues to be Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through Monday, March 30, 2020. The COVID-19 closure may be extended based on State and CDC guidelines.

Online Learning Plan

The state has now declared these closure days as “Act of God” days. Based on this new designation, starting Tuesday, teachers cannot assign any additional required assignments during the closure for which the students would be held accountable upon school’s reopening.

However, the students are responsible for anything assigned on or before Monday, March 16, 2020, including any long-term projects that would have been due during or following the state mandated closure. For those long-term projects that would have come due during the closure they will be due immediately upon the first day of the school coming back into session.

In addition, all online classes will maintain their given timelines and due dates; as those deadlines and assignments were given to the students prior to the upcoming school closure. For our students who have been on the Mission Trip, it is very important for them to contact their teachers to ensure they have the most up to date information on assignments and adjustments that may have taken place while they were not on campus.

If you have any specific questions about this or need assistance getting in contact with a particular teacher or online learning institution, please contact me via e-mail at

Addressing Accessibility Issues

For students who have limited or no internet access at home, times will be made available for campus to be open so students may use our facilities and WiFi access. A tentative schedule of these times can be found   below.

Caring for our Community Members in Need

If your family needs assistance providing for its physical needs, there are resources available that I can place you in contact with. Please reach out to me privately if you would like to be connected to those resources.

Updated Daily Schedule

Starting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 and continuing until the school can reopen for traditional sessions, the school building will be accessible for students needing WiFi access, or simply a safe place to be while parents are at work on the following schedule. If your student or anyone in your family is not well, please encourage them to stay home. Please call school (618-853-7300) before you come to make sure that someone is on campus.

Campus Daily Schedule During COVID-19 Closure

Mondays 8:00 a.m. until Noon

Tuesdays 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Wednesdays Noon until 3:00 p.m.

Thursdays 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Fridays 8:00 a.m. until Noon

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020 the school building will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to allow students, especially those who have been out for the Mission Trip, to come and collect their materials or check out Chromebooks, as well as to clean their lockers of any food waste or other garbage. All students should anticipate that school staff will be checking all lockers during the closure to ensure that there is no waste left in them.

Once again, as stated in my letter on Friday, if special availability needs to be made to fit your family’s needs please reach out to me via e-mail ( and we will try to make what accommodations we can.

Scheduled Hours Requirement

With the designation of these dates as “Act of God” days by the state, we do not anticipate having to extend the school calendar. Should the State change this mandate or redefine the situation, I will communicate that information with you as soon as I am able.

Resuming School

As mentioned in the previous letter, we hope to re-open school on Tuesday, March 31. However, the ability to resume school operations will depend on the decisions made at a State level and what is happening in the community around us. Please prepare for a longer closure if needed.

Communication with Students

We continue to encourage you to talk with your child(ren) about this decision and to help them understand that you as parents and COS as a school are working hard to keep all of us healthy and safe. While we certainly wish we were remaining open, we believe our students can handle the coming weeks with resiliency and   composure.

Thank you everyone for your patience and support during this unprecedented time. I expect there may still be many questions and surprises to arise along the way. I pray for peace and even joy to fill your households

during the coming weeks, and I seek your prayers for our teaching staff as we journey onward.

In Christ,

Matthew Foster
