“La familia” relationships

To describe how one family member is related to another in Spanish, you will need these new words.  Move the cursor over each Spanish word to hear it pronounced.  Practice repeating it.

   Spanish                               English
de                                            of
mi                                            my (singular)
mis                                          my (plural)

To tell what belongs to someone or to show relationships in Spanish, we use:

• de + noun

• the possessive adjectives mi or mis

 For example: el padre de mi padre = mi abuelo
                        la madre de mi madre = mi abuela
                        el hermano de mi padre = mi tío
                        la hermana de mi madre = mi tía
                        el hijo de mi tío = mi primo
                        la hija de mi tía = mi prima
