Christ Our Savior Closure Detailed Information

As announced earlier today, to be in compliance with the declaration made by Governor JB Pritzker, COS will be closed beginning, March 17, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Please note that all before and after school clubs and events will be cancelled as well including Track, FFA, and Drama.

I realize the challenges this presents to our working families and the impact it will have. However, after the decision by the Illinois State Board of Education, I feel confident that we are making a choice that will positively impact the safety and health of our families and also the larger community around us.

Daily Schedule

Monday 3/16 – Normal classroom schedule. At the end of the day, students will bring home materials as needed for online and at-home learning, no after school activities.

Tuesday 3/17 – First day of closure, teacher planning day. In addition, Mr. Foster will be on campus from 8:00am to 3:00 pm so students who were on the mission trip can come and retrieve materials they may need.

Wednesday 3/18 Second day of closure, the plan for at-home and online learning will be communicated by individual teachers to students and families.

Thursday 3/19 First day of at-home learning, anticipated to continue through Monday, March 30, 2020

Tuesday 3/31 We hope to resume school on this day.

Online Learning Initial Plan

Students will not be required to all log in at the same time for virtual learning; the structure will be individualized and each student can complete their work at their own pace. Time spent will vary by class but the total time should average from 2-4 hours a day. More detailed information will come out no later than Wednesday, 3/18 from each individual teacher. Students should monitor their COS provided e-mail address for communications from their teachers.

Addressing Accessibility Issues

For students who have limited or no internet access at home, times will be made available for campus to be open so students may use our facilities and Wi-Fi access. A schedule of these times will be sent home with the students on Monday, March 16th. If special availability needs to be made to fit your family’s needs please reach out to me via e-mail ( and we will try to make what accommodations we can.

Scheduled Hours Requirement

Fortunately, we were over-zealous in planning our educational hour requirement for the current school year, so currently we have a multitude of additional school days built into our schedule. This gives us a comfortable cushion, but we do require our students to complete their at-home learning, as we hope to not have to make up any days this summer.

Resuming School

As mentioned above, we hope to re-open school on Tuesday, March 31. However, the ability to resume school operations will depend on the decisions made at a State level, and what is happening in the community around us. Please prepare for a longer closure if needed.

Communication with Students

We encourage you to talk with your child(ren) about this decision and to help them understand that you as parents and COS as a school are working hard to keep all of us healthy and safe. While we certainly wish we were remaining open, we believe our students can handle the coming weeks with resiliency and composure, and we know all of us will learn to pursue education in a different manner.

Thank you everyone for your patience and support during this unprecedented time. Please bear with us as we work through the myriad of details which need to happen as we make this change in structure. We have never done this before, and we expect many questions and surprises to arise along the way. We pray for peace and even joy to fill your households during the coming weeks, and we seek your prayers for our teaching staff as we journey into new territory.

In Christ,

Matthew Foster,

Christ Our Savior Principal
